We are pleased to announce that the 4th international Workshop on Optomechanics and Brillouin scattering: Fundamentals, Applications and Technology (WOMBAT) will be held at the Max-Planck Institute for the Science of Light in Erlangen (Germany).
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the in-person workshop has been postponed to 14-17 June 2022. There will be a virtual workshop at the originally planned dates 15-17 June 2021.
Please register now for the online workshop until 31st May 2021.
Submit your abstract for the poster sessions / hot topics session until 14th May 2021.
The WOMBAT series of workshops aims to gather the international research community working on interactions between light, sound and mechanical vibrations and to bridge the gap between the fields of Brillouin scattering and (cavity) opto-mechanics research. At the same time, we strive to represent the full spectrum of research from fundamental science to applications.
Like the previous workshops (Sydney 2015, Besançon 2017, Tel Aviv 2019), the 4th WOMBAT will bring together leading scientists from across the globe. In particular, we intend to provide a platform for early career researchers and introductory-level education for students via a series of tutorial lectures delivered by renowned experts in the field.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is unlikely that an international meeting in person and without travel restrictions would be possible in 2021. Therefore, it has been postponed to 2022, which also gives us the opportunity to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the discovery of Brillouin scattering in 1922.
However, we want to stay connected as a community and therefore, we will hold an online event on 15-17 June 2021. It will consist of several invited high-profile presentations and contributed poster presentation sessions where we can discuss and exchange ideas and recent results. We will do our best to accommodate the different time zones.
Authors can contribute with a poster to the virtual poster session. Please submit a one-page abstract until the 14th May 2021. Out of the submitted contributions, a selection will be chosen for a short talk at the Hot Topics Session on the last day.
This website will be updated regularly as invited speakers confirm their attendance and workshop preparations are finalized. Please find the time line for both events below. We invite you to be part of our active, growing and lively research community and to enjoy two stimulating meetings.
We hope to meet you soon online and later in Erlangen!
