Description

UPDATE (March 31, 2020)

Due to the current situation, the symposium will unfortunately not take place as planned in Erlangen.

Currently we are working on transforming it into an internet-based workshop (free of charge). Further information will follow soon. So, please keep those days still blocked in your calendar.

In addition, those participants who have already paid the registration fee will receive an e-mail with information about the refund of the fees.

Over the past few days, the number of Covid-19 infection cases in the world and in Germany has significantly increased. Up until now, infected persons in Germany have been successfully isolated and treated and the contact persons have been monitored closely.

Nevertheless, the Max Planck Society has decided to cancel all larger gatherings until Easter (April 13th, 2020) to prevent eventual risks. At this point, there is no convincing reason to cancel further events, so we plan to hold the iSCAT Workshop as scheduled.

We will, however, monitor the situation and should be able to make a final decision by mid April.

Label-free optical imaging and analytical techniques are in high demand in a wide range of applications. Among the various light-matter interactions that can be used for this purpose, elastic scattering is the most fundamental and ubiquitous contrast mechanism. Indeed, several imaging modalities, including bright-field microscopy, dark-field microscopy, phase contrast, DIC, digital holography, interference reflection microscopy, and interferometric scattering microscopy (iSCAT) have exploited the elastic scattering signal from a wide range of samples.

We are organizing a workshop from the 26th to the 28th of May 2020 to discuss the recent progress and future potentials of elastic scattering with a particular emphasis on interferometric and phase-sensitive methods. The workshop will take place at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light, in Erlangen, Germany, and will start on the morning of the 26th of May at 8 a.m. (please refer to the preliminary timetable for further details).
