4th Workshop on Optomechanics and Brillouin Scattering

We are pleased to announce that the 4th international Workshop on Optomechanics and Brillouin scattering: Fundamentals, Applications and Technology (WOMBAT) will be held at the Max-Planck Institute for the Science of Light in Erlangen (Germany).

The in-person workshop will be held from 14th - 17th of June 2022 in Erlangen.

The WOMBAT series of workshops aims to gather the international research community working on interactions between light, sound and mechanical vibrations and to bridge the gap between the fields of Brillouin scattering and (cavity) opto-mechanics research. At the same time, we strive to represent the full spectrum of research from fundamental science to applications.

Like the previous in-person workshops (Sydney 2015, Besançon 2017, Tel Aviv 2019), the 4th WOMBAT will bring together leading scientists from across the globe. In particular, we intend to provide a platform for early career researchers and introductory-level education for students via a series of tutorial lectures delivered by renowned experts in the field.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a virtual workshop was held at the original dates from 15th to 17th of June 2021 with about 200 participants. We thank all invited speakers, contributed hot topics speakers and poster presenters from 2021 for presenting their exciting results! The 2021 virtual group picture:

Postponing the workshop from 2021 to 2022 gives us the opportunity to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the discovery of Brillouin scattering in 1922!

This website will be updated regularly. Please find the time line for the in-person event below. We invite you to be part of our active, growing and lively research community and to enjoy a stimulating meeting!

We hope to meet you soon in Erlangen!
